All of those I met (from porter, to cleaning staff to kitchen staff were very helpful and extremely pleasant. True, the room and the bathrooms could have been a little better cared for but the reasons for this this slight criticism didn't spoil my stay. The setting of St Hughes is good. I'd have no hesitation in recommending it and I hope to go back again myself at some point in the near future.

Mr Ian Forster, avril 2012: I was very impressed with the service when booking, the staff at the College (very helpful), the breakfast (fantastic choice), the location and the price! The rooms were basic but perfectly adequate and great for the price. The only downside, and it is only a small gripe compared to how good everything else was, was that the all the doors on the corridor tended to bang quite loudly which wasn't ideal late at night or early in the morning. Overall, I think you would be hard pushed to find decent accommodation like this, in such a good location, at this price with such good service.

Ms Michelle Else, mars 2012: I took the 2A bus from Oxford, up Banbury Road to the St Margarets road bus stop and was delighted that the main entrance to St Hughs was only 50m walk. The check in porters lodge (security office) had the nicest gentlemen who were very informative and made check in a breeze. The moment I walked through the doors of the main building, on route to my room was the moment I knew St Hughs would be a enjoyable and memorable stay. It was a spacious hall with a imposing solid wood staircase ascending. (Also a lift, but I had only hand luggage so was easy).My room 5x3m was larger than expected with a study table and chair. The shared bathrooms were easily accessed and immaculatly clean. I never saw anyone else- so was more like my private bathroom across the passage from my room. The bed was warm and comfortable and the surrounds very quiet except for the occasional person moving through the swingdoor in the passage. But that stopped after 11pm.The one thing that was curious was the breakfast. I walked down to the dining hall for breakfast in the morning, and seeing students paying for their food, I was not sure if the breakfast was paid for, didnt see anyone to ask. I wasnt very hungry so chose to skip the breakfast. Next time in Oxford I will book at St Hughs again as my stay was very enjoyable. I would also like to take the opportunity to walk through the grounds and the gardens as they looked idyllic, with large graceful lawns and majestic trees.

David Sampson, mai 2010: This is the first time I've stayed at St Hugh's. I'm a part time graduate student and need periodic accommodation. I stay at colleges when I can. It was overall, an excellent experience. Much better than some of the hotels in the area. It's a great value for the money and is close to all the science departments. The bus stops are very convenient too. The room was clean. The only drawback the shared showers and toilets, since none of the rooms are en-suite. If you can live with that, it's a great value and location.

I stayed in the modern facilities and was very happy with my room and especially my oh-so-spacious desk! It is further away than other colleges and that made it perfect for my intensive-writing purposes. The good thing is that it only takes a 15 min walk to be back in the city center. Perfect balance. Very friendly staff. I highly recommend it.

The room was comfortable; I was surprised and pleased by how exquisitely clean the whole of St Hughes was, what excellent cleaning staff you must gave. I walked out the gate and a lovely 10 minute stroll led me (and plenty of bicycles, strollers and other pedestrians) into the heart of this wonderful town. I was travelling alone and felt quite comfortable walking back to the college in the evening. Now I can say, 'I was a resident at Oxford for a time....' which could come in handy.

Thought we might be a bit intimidated by Oxford but we weren't. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, or friendly. The accommodation was comfortable, we particularly liked the 'twin single room' set-up at St Hugh's. The breakfast was excellent. Had a small problem with access after dusk when most of the gates are shut, but that was mainly misunderstanding on our part. Not as atmospheric as older Oxford colleges, but carparking this close to the city centre is a good reason for choosing St Hugh's again. I stayed during the Easter holiday, so the wardrobes were all locked and out of use which would have been inconvenient if I'd been staying for longer. Otherwise, absolutely fine for a college room.

There were issues over making amendments to my booking due to site maintenance - the College that I had booked was not visible on the amendments screen - but these problems were resolved in a timely manner and did not cause a great inconvenience. Check-in was fine, breakfast was very good, the electronic access is excellent. Overall my party was pleased with the accommodation.

Grant McDonald, septembre 2008: Overall our stay at St Hugh's was very good in relation to value for money. The rooms were clean and tidy. The staff at the gatehouse were very helpful. The standard and choice of food available at breakfast was excellent. There was a mistake with our booking in that 3 single rooms had been made ready for us when I had booked 2 singles and a twin. This, however, was corrected by the staff at the gatehouse within 30 minutes. I would recommend staying at St Hugh's to family and friends.

The food was super. The only thing marginally below excellent was the mattress in one room (the one without a wardrobe), which seemed a little damp, and formless! The Oxford info pack provided was very useful. We loved every moment of our visit to the college and to the city.

Brigid Armstrong, septembre 2008: My son and I stayed at the college for 2 nights while we had a look around before he submits his UCAS application. The porters were both very helpful and pleasant. We had real trouble locating our rooms and I would suggest that better numbering and information would be of real help. I had driven from St Andrews on the day we arrived and it took us about 25 minutes to get to our rooms. we had to go and get the porter and even he had trouble finding them for us. I was absolutely exhausted and could have done without it! However, our stay was fine, the breakfast was good and the location was perfect for our needs.I would definitely stay in colleges again if the need arose.
